Aglaonema 'Ivy Green'

Aglaonema 'Ivy Green' is a compact green Chinese evergreen with narrow leaves and pale lengthwise markings. The foliage rises from a small crown, giving the plant an upright shape with a neat vertical outline.

The leaf colour stays within green and soft silver-green tones. Darker margins and lighter inner markings make the pale pattern stand out clearly while keeping the leaf pattern tidy.

Aglaonema 'Ivy Green' leaves and habit

  • Narrow green leaves with pale central markings
  • Compact upright habit suited to small and medium pots
  • Short-stemmed clumping growth from the base
  • Green and silver-green colouring with a neat foliage crown
  • Slow to moderate growth in warm, filtered light with a root ball that dries slightly between waterings

How Aglaonema 'Ivy Green' grows

Aglaonema 'Ivy Green' is a cultivated Aglaonema grown for its slender foliage and subtle green patterning. It develops from short stems and basal shoots, gradually forming a fuller crown as new leaves overlap around the centre.

Aglaonema species are native from north-eastern India through tropical Asia to Papua New Guinea, where they grow in warm, sheltered habitats. Indoors, Aglaonema 'Ivy Green' keeps shorter stems and a fuller crown with temperatures around 18–27 °C, filtered light and an airy substrate around the roots.

The name Aglaonema comes from Greek roots meaning bright or clear and thread, referring to the stamens.

Aglaonema 'Ivy Green' care needs

  • Light: Place in medium to bright filtered light. A position near an east or north-east facing window is usually suitable.
  • Watering: Water after the top 2–3 cm of substrate dry. Small pots can dry unevenly, so check both the surface and the deeper root ball.
  • Substrate: Use a fine, airy mix with coco coir, bark fines and perlite. The lower stems need a mix that drains quickly after watering.
  • Pot choice: Keep it in a pot with drainage holes. A snug root ball dries more evenly than an oversized pot that stays wet around the roots.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally 18–27 °C. Move it away from cold window glass and draughty doors.
  • Humidity: Average room humidity is generally fine. In very dry rooms, grouped plants or a humidifier can reduce dry tips and help new leaves unfurl without sticking.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly every 4–6 weeks while new growth is forming. Use a diluted foliage-plant fertiliser.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot or the plant dries too quickly after watering. Use only a modest pot size increase.
  • Grooming: Remove yellowing older leaves at the base and wipe dust from the narrow blades with a damp cloth.
  • Propagation: Divide rooted side shoots during repotting once the plant has several active growth points.

Growth, stem and leaf checks

  • Weak, stretched new leaves: Move the plant gradually into brighter filtered light and rotate the pot so new leaves do not lean strongly toward one side.
  • Soft lower stems: Check for wet substrate around the crown and inspect the roots. Repot into a more open mix if the base feels unstable.
  • Brown tips: Irregular moisture, fertiliser build-up or very dry air are common causes. Rinse the mix and avoid letting the root ball swing between very dry and soaked.
  • Dull leaves with fine speckling: Check leaf undersides and petiole bases for spider mites, especially in dry heated indoor air.

Sap and household safety

Place Aglaonema 'Ivy Green' where pets and children cannot reach the leaves or stems. Like many Araceae, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, tongue and throat if eaten; the sap may also bother sensitive skin after pruning or division.

Its narrow leaves and upright habit make it a neat green Aglaonema for small and medium pots.

Fine for a man (with skinny wrists)
Color: Black/Gray, Color: Black/Gray
I have an older mens ironman which has gotten a little beat up and needs replacing. The band is much longer than I need. The metal clasp sits off-center on the underside of my wrist, closer to the part of my wrist which curves around to the front. The too-long strap sometimes flops around and catches on things. I couldn't find a smaller-band mens version, so I tried this "womens" watch (picking the most manly-looking one, of course). I like it better. The band fits my wrist much better, with the metal band in the middle and no flop. I also like that the watch is lighter and the face and band are smaller and less bulky, so it is less noticeable when I'm wearing it (cycling weight weenies will appreciate this). The face is still large enough to be easily legible and contains all of the same great features as my mens ironman watch, plus the newer versions now have an hourly chime, nice! Other info: my wrist is ~17.5cm or ~7.0" around. On this watch, I use the 6th out of 9 slots on the band. On my mens ironman, I use the 3rd out of 9 slots. Weight: this one = 28g, mens = 39g. Pics show comparison of my prior mens ironman with this new "womens" ironman. Photo order is confusing (couldn't figure out how to change that). They are: (1) side-by-side, mens on left, (2) mens band (wider and clasp is off-center on my wrist, end of band hangs over the edge of my wrist -- too long for me -- catches on things), (3) womens band (less wide, clasp is more centered on my wrist and end does hang over edge of my wrist), (3) womens watch (smaller, and looks new), and (5) mens watch, looking a little beat up.

Watch holds up in saltwater!
Color: Black/Gray
I bought this watch to use for my trip to the Galapagos Islands. I read two reviews that the watch does not hold up in salt water. I went snorkeling in the ocean 6 times, about 45 minutes each time. The watch did not leak. I did take precautions by keeping the watch under my rash guard and lowering myself slowly into the water. I also rinsed off my watch each time I snorkeled. I also bought this watch for the multi time zone feature by saving the time on the west coast, east coast and Galapagos time since I cannot change the time on my Fitbit until I land in an airport. I did not use any other features of the watch because I generally use my phone or Fitbit for an alarm or timer. The only complaint I have is that Timex now discourages changing the battery by the consumer. I changed the battery myself on my old Ironman watch. The new Ironman watch is fitted with triangular head screws. So I will have to purchase screwdrivers with triangular heads when it comes time to change the battery.

Reliable and durable, even in harsh conditions
Color: Black/Gray
This watch has served me very well. From Arctic waters to long distance races, it has held up to everything except one task I asked of it, which was my fault. This watch can handle repeated free dives to 12 ft deep. It cannot handle scuba diving at the same depth for an hour straight without needing to have the battery shorted to reset it. It fits well, lights up consistently and brightly enough to read without being blinding, keeps accurate time, and generally does everything I want it to.

Typical Timex
Color: Black/Black/Brown
Just love this watch. It’s a little larger dial than the “typical” 38mm,which is what I was looking for. Works perfectly. Keeps decently accurate time, solid built metal case and glass crystal. Leather strap not too stiff so break in is not really a concern. I like Timex best for reliability, features and price. Plus it’s easy to change readily available batteries (which last about 1-2 years). Getting lots of compliments on it. One small oddity, what should be the second hand is actually a tachometer/chronograph function. The second hand is actually a smaller dial near the 6 o’clock position. Seems odd especially if you’ve never owned a hand sweep chronograph watch. Not a big deal just need to retrain your brain for the second hand. Timex has been my go to watch for years now and I’ve never had an issue with them except the occasional band or battery replacement. I wear them to work and am NOT easy on them at all. They just work. In my opinion, they are a great value. Moderate watches typically cost well over $100, Timex’s core watches are about 1/2 that price usually. Although the company has ventured into the upscale watch arena a few years ago and are also value packed and very good looking, some costing as much as $1000! For my daily driver kind of budget, I’ll stick with their core line basic watches thanks
