  • Maranta leuconeura 'Silver Band', known as the Silver Band Prayer Plant, is a compact tropical houseplant native to the Brazilian rainforest. It’s part of the Marantaceae family, which includes other popular "prayer plants" known for their gentle leaf movement — lifting up at night and relaxing down by day. What makes 'Silver Band' stand out is its beautiful, understated foliage: each soft, oval leaf has a shimmering silver stripe running down the center, framed by deep green margins and a subtle midrib halo.

This variety stays compact, usually reaching 10–12 inches tall and wide, and grows in a low, horizontal, spreading habit — ideal for tabletops or shelf edges. Its leaves have a velvety texture and a slightly trailing form, slowly filling out the pot with new shoots over time.

To many, 'Silver Band' resembles a smaller Calathea, and that’s no surprise — they belong to the same plant family. The leaf shape, velvety texture, and silver striping are similar to varieties like Calathea picturata or Calathea orbifolia. However, 'Silver Band' is more compact, less fussy, and generally easier to grow indoors. While Calatheas often grow upright and need very specific conditions, 'Silver Band' is more forgiving and creeps outward in a tidy clump. If you love the look of Calatheas but want something a little more relaxed in care, this plant is a great choice.

Compared to the more colorful Maranta varieties (like the red-veined Erythroneura), this one has a cleaner, cooler look, making it perfect for modern interiors or soft, foliage-based plant styling. It’s also safe for pets and adds quiet, living movement to your space without overwhelming it.
  • Provide bright, indirect light to maintain the vibrant silver stripe and healthy growth. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can bleach the leaf color and cause browning.

Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, keeping the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Using filtered or dechlorinated water is ideal, as Marantas can be sensitive to tap water chemicals.

This plant thrives in high humidity and may struggle in dry indoor air. Use a humidifier, place it in a bathroom with good light, or set the pot on a pebble tray to boost moisture around the plant.

Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter, such as a blend of peat moss or coco coir with perlite. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot while maintaining steady moisture.

Keep the plant in temperatures between 65–85°F, away from cold drafts or heat vents. Sudden drops below 60°F can cause leaf curling or slow growth.

This plant is non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a safe choice for households with cats, dogs, or children.

Oily situation lol

Honestly how do you write a review of this product? I would have to run tests for years on multiple oils on various engines to do so. The value was good however and shipping was great

Works well. You need to drill a 3/8” hole
Appears to be well made, alignment bar slides in nicely. As stated, you need to drill a hole in the bar for the gimble bearing driver, the directions are not clear, what I did was before I take out the old gimble bearing, put an O ring on the bar close to the last step on the bar, slide the bar all the way in, then carefully slide the bar out, this marks the distance from the back of the gimble bearing to where the shaft on the outdrive bottoms out, move the O ring a 1/4” towards the stepped part of the alignment tool (this is so you won’t bottom out the alignment tool when driving the gimble bearing in) then slide the driver puck up to the O ring and use a 3/8” diameter transfer punch through the side hole in the puck to mark the bar. You need to drill a 3/8” diameter hole in the alignment bar, two V blocks, some clamps, and a drill press will make drilling much easier, after the bar is securely mounted and centered in the drill press, use a center drill, then 1/4” drill first, using plenty of oil, drill all the way through, then use the 3/8” drill, deburr both sides and you should be good to go. People complain that it doesn’t come pre-drilled, the reason is that not all out drives are the same so you have to fit it to the outdrive that you have. Fortunately, I have a machine shop at my house and have a jig setup with various drill bushings, but the method I described above should work for you. Just make sure you’re perfectly centered and secure before you start drilling.
