Also known as Brunswick or Madonna, Magnolia was introduced in the 1800s. A tree peddler in Texas was selling actual Magnolia trees, which were later discovered to be fig trees identical to the Brunswick variety -- hence the name "Magnolia." Many fig growers will use the names Brunswick or Magnolia interchangeably.
