This is one of the tallest sunflower varieties in the world. Huge 9 to 12 foot stalks adorn bright and sunny blooms that are around 1 foot in diameter. Each stalk typically produces one bloom. They start blooming at about 3 months from seed. Each head will produce a ton of seeds for human and bird consumption. After blooming, the stalks and leaves offer a lot of biomass to be used for composting or mulching.

How To Grow From Seed

Sun: Full Sun

Water: Allow the soil to dry out a little bit in-between watering. Established plants are drought tolerant.

Fertilizer: Doesnt require a lot of fertilizer since this is a wildflower. Can give it some organic granular fertilizer every now and then to promote lush growth and blooms.

When & How To Sow Seeds: Can direct sow 1/2 inch deep, after the last frost or start in larger sized pots 6 weeks before your last spring frost date. Direct sowing is preferred because sunflowers grow a long tap root. Space 2 FT apart for good air circulation. Plants will get around 6FT tall at maturity. It helps to direct sow the seeds next to a fence or structure for support as tall sunflowers can blow over from strong winds. Direct sow in a spot that gets full sun, covering with 1/4 inch of soil. Keep the soil moist to speed up germination.

Germination: 5-14 days

Days To Maturity: Usually starts blooming in 2 to 3 months from seed

How & When To Harvest: Harvest blooms early in the morning for fresh cut flowers. Frequent harvesting and deadheading of spent flowers encourages more blooms.

Common Diseases:  Sunflowers don't get too many diseases but in wet or humid environments can get powdery mildew or black spots. Improve airflow by proper plant spacing. Spray with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect.

Common Pests: Sunflowers don't have too many pests. Small critters like squirrels and birds like to eat the seeds from the flower heads.

Learning curve - but super fun
Color: Blue Dog Ball Launcher with Squeaking Handle, Size: One-Size
Okay- don’t get me wrong I know how to use a chuck it. But the handle of this has a squeaker - which is fantastic to get my ADHD dog to focus! Buuttt beware- it will take off your fingernail if you aren’t holding it properly when throwing. I learned that the hard way. Twice.

BUY IT!!
Color: Blue Dog Ball Launcher, Size: One-Size
Great product!! Releases the ball nicely and saves my arm from dying at the end of the day. The construction of it feels flimsy but for someone who uses it AT LEAST 3 hours EVERYDAY, I would say it's pretty good quality. Would highly recommend!!

Fantastic tool for dog owners!
Size: 1-pack
This is a great tool to keep your dog active without getting your hands messy! I discovered it launches better when you don't push the ball completely into the holder, but just have it in partially. The ball included is nice and bouncy. The launcher also works with Kong balls.

Endless Fetch Fun—Perfect for My Jack Russell!
Size: 1-pack
This ball launcher has been a total game-changer for fetch time with my Jack Russell! She has tons of energy, and this helps me keep up without wearing out my arm. It works great with most standard tennis balls, so I don’t have to worry about tracking down special ones.
