The Face Cards incorporate an older set of Standard Court characters. Each Court Card includes either a whole apple, a half apple, a male Cardinal or a female Cardinal, plus a watermark of a vine pattern (red for Hearts and Diamonds - green for Clubs and Spades). Cardinals are included because John Chapman was known for his love of animals. The Jokers feature an engraving style drawing of Johnny Appleseed / John Chapman.
