The weed your grandparents ate. The green that grows itself.

Chenopodium album, known as Lamb's Quarters, is one of the most nutritious and widely distributed edible wild greens in the world, a fast-growing annual that appears in gardens, fields, and disturbed ground across every continent except Antarctica. The young leaves taste like a mild spinach with a slightly earthy, mineral richness and are eaten raw in salads, cooked like spinach, or dried and powdered as a nutrient supplement. It is the kind of plant foragers know and gardeners pull out without realizing what they are discarding. Grown intentionally, it is one of the most productive edible greens available for the effort required.

  • Highly nutritious edible green comparable to spinach in flavor and superior to it in several nutrients
  • Grows quickly from seed in almost any soil with almost no care required
  • Young leaves eaten raw or cooked, seeds ground into flour as a traditional grain substitute
  • One of the most productive edible plants available for the effort required to grow it
  • Historical food plant with a documented culinary tradition spanning thousands of years on multiple continents

Things you probably did not know about Lamb's Quarters

It was a staple food in prehistoric Europe. Lamb's Quarters seeds have been found in the stomachs of bog bodies in Denmark and Germany preserved from the Iron Age, indicating it was eaten as a regular part of the diet in northern Europe thousands of years before modern vegetables arrived. Archaeological sites across Europe consistently turn up Chenopodium seeds in quantities suggesting deliberate cultivation or at least protection of naturally occurring plants.

It is more nutritious than spinach by several measures. Lamb's Quarters contains higher concentrations of calcium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and protein per gram than commercial spinach. It also contains more iron than most commercial leafy greens and significant quantities of B vitamins. It is considered a superfood in traditional food systems across Central Asia, South Asia, and indigenous North America.

The seeds were ground into flour long before wheat arrived in the Americas. Chenopodium seeds were harvested and ground into a dark flour by Indigenous peoples across North America for centuries. The closely related Chenopodium quinoa, domesticated in the Andes, is now one of the most commercially valuable grain crops in the world. Lamb's Quarters is its wild relative and produces seeds with similar nutritional properties on a smaller scale.

It self-seeds so enthusiastically you only need to plant it once. A single Lamb's Quarters plant can produce 75,000 seeds per season. Once established in a garden, it will return reliably each spring from seeds that overwinter in the soil. Most gardeners who plant it intentionally find that management quickly becomes more relevant than propagation.

Growing Details

  • Botanical Name: Chenopodium album
  • Stratification: Not required
  • Annual: Grows in a single season
  • Soil: Extremely adaptable, grows in almost any soil including poor, disturbed, or compacted conditions
  • Light: Full sun to partial shade
  • Height: 2 to 6 feet
  • Harvest: Begin harvesting young leaves when plants are 6 to 12 inches tall, before flowering for best flavor

Grow it intentionally and harvest it before it grows past you. The most nutritious thing in your garden might be the plant everyone else is pulling out.

Great Value for a ball my dog loves!
Color: S6-muti-color
I wish these ball were in the subscription program! My dog gets sooo excited by the new ball, but her interest in things lasts for a few days. She kills the squeak within 11minutes, but the squeaker stays in place rather than becoming a chocking or swallow hazard, and she still loves to chew it. Next, we must throw the ball approximately 723 times the first day, possibly 496 times on day 2, and just 3- 4 on day 3, at which point she will chase the ball before hollering "it's over here if you need it," while she checks on the chipmunk den. We currently have 17 of these balls in our yard (because we have given several leftovers to a less discriminating doodle next door). These balls hold up really well, get her extremely active for the first couple of days, and are a much cheaper than doggie daycare (after an active morning with a new ball, she is happy to chew on it and sleep much of the day). I always have these on hand!

Pieces chewed off
Color: white & green
My Aussiedoodle loves it. I throw it down the hallway, it bounces crazy, and he chases it. The only complaint is that he can't chew much of the ball part. So now I have to have it put away and brought out for special playtime.

Best Card in My Wallet!
Having this card from Prime/ Sync has made things so much easier ! I order something & then go to cart & pay with my Prime card, nothing more. I don’t need to worry about theft or further actions or delays. It’s a done deal & I have more time added to make an additional purchase if I need to in case I forget something. I love this card 💞. So easy, I buy more here cause it’s faster, safer, & all in one easy step & Amazon has just about everything there is so why not ? Best card in my wallet !!!

2026 it has saved me
I never wanted a store card only! When I first applied I was bummed that I only got the store card and I thought about canceling it. BUT A lot has changed this year for sure. New grandparents, grocery being so EXPENSIVE and everything in our house as far as electronics needed to be replaced. Very easy to apply for, love the fact that you can apply without getting a hit on your credit and if you want to accept the offer then do so and if you decide that it’s not enough credit then you can decline the offer and no hit to your credit. I will say this, this was the lowest card that I was offered but I chose to get it anyway and within a month I had already received a credit line increase. I also took a trip out of the country and was able to order stuff and have it delivered with no problems. Every time I use it I get cash back and am able to use that on my next order. This is my weekly card for groceries. I definitely can’t wait until it upgrades to the visa, I would definitely get more use out of it. For those who are Amazon shoppers, it’s well worth it. So far so good, Good Choice.

Good, but you need to be careful with it
I've done business with GE CRB before using other store cards, so I knew what to expect going into this. I will echo the advice that a few others have given. For one, I would recommend that you only use this card for one purchase at a time and that you pay it off entirely before using the card again. The interest starts accruing immediately, but you are not billed for it until the promotional term expires - for example 6 months, 12 months, etc. You will see the expiration date and accrued interest amount on your bill. I always make sure I can pay off the entire amount well before the expiration date. Also, I schedule automatic payments through the website so it's paid every two weeks (pay day works well for me). I divide the balance by number of payments and schedule all of them right away. It's very easy to do this and will prevent late payment fees and the possibility of defaulting and getting hit with the accrued interest. I haven't had to deal directly with GE CRB customer service yet, so I don't have any complaints on that. The benefit of having a card like this is being able to use it for major purchases, paying it off over time, and avoiding any interest charges because you are paying off the balance before the promotional term (deferred interest) expires. You can't do that with a regular credit card. If you want a card to make frequent purchases with and plan on paying off the balance at the end of the month, you're much better off with a regular credit card. One warning... I noticed that after I was approved for this card my method of payment for Kindle one click purchases changed to this card. Keeping it that way would not be good and I wanted to make sure others know about this. I'm pretty sure you'd be hit with the interest at the end of the month since the purchases you would be making are lower than what's required to receive the no interest promotions. I changed it back to my debit card. Just keep on top of the account, don't use it to make a bunch of purchases, and pay the balance off before the promotional terms expire and you'll be fine. Like all credit, being responsible is the key to not getting in trouble with it.
